Half Marathon

The Door County Half Marathon will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010 at
10 a.m.  The entire half marathon is run on paved surfaces in Peninsula State Park.  This U.S. Track and Field certified course starts and finishes near Nicolet Beach.  The course winds through the park, giving runners breathtaking views of the water, shaded areas through the woods, challenging hills and ever-changing scenery throughout one of Wisconsin’s most popular parks.

MP3 players are allowed for the race, but sorry, no dogs or strollers are allowed on the course due to space and safety concerns. Walkers are welcome and should plan to finish by the time the course opens to traffic at 2:00 p.m.

All participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher’s medal, as well as food and drink in the Runners’ Concourse area.  Prizes will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers and top three overall master male and female winners.  The top three finishers in each age group will be awarded medals.  Top overall finishers will be eligible for age group awards as well.

Nicolet Bay 5k

The Nicolet Bay 5k begins at 10:30 a.m., just after the start of the half marathon.  This race has a separate starting line on Shore Road and participants will follow the course going around the bay past Eagle Bluff Lighthouse and Welcker’s Point, finishing at the same finish line as the half marathon.  MP3 players are allowed, but sorry, no dogs or strollers are allowed on the course due to space and safety concerns.  Walkers are welcome.

Packet Pickup

On Friday, April 30, runners may pick up their packets at the Ephraim Village Hall just north of Wilson’s Restaurant on Hwy 42 from1 - 9 p.m.  Participants will find Door County Half Marathon merchandise, shoe recycling, race information, park stickers and event passes for parking at Peninsula State Park as well as merchandise from Bay Shore Outdoor of Sister Bay and Runaway Shoes of Green Bay.

On Race Day, packets may be picked up at Peninsula State Park from 8:00-9:30 a.m.  Reminder…parking is limited in Peninsula State Park on race day.  Please check the transportation and parking information sections of this site for more information. 

Pasta Dinner

Door County is known for its great restaurants and this year participants can enjoy a great prerace meal at various local restaurants. To find out more, click on the Restaurant Sponsor tab.

Arrival Times on Race Day

On race day, participants should plan to arrive at Peninsula State Park between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m.  Late arrivals may experience significant delays in getting to the parking lot and arriving at the race on time. You may use the Ephraim or Fish Creek entrance, and park greeters will be there to assist you.  Also, roads inside the park will be closed to traffic during the race.

Medical and Emergency Information

Medical personnel will be available throughout the course and a medical tent will be located at the finish line.  Aid stations for the half marathon will be located near miles 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12.  Aid stations for the 5k will be located at miles 1 and 2.

Chip Timing

The Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5K will be chip timed.  Results will be available after the race in the big tent in the Runners’ Concourse and online.

Cell Phones

Important: Your cell phone may not work in the park.  Please designate a location to meet up with your family and friends after the race. 

Temperatures

Door County Temperatures in early May range from lows in the mid 30’s to highs in the upper 50’s.  Keep in mind it will be cooler by the lake.

Runner Bags

Drawstring bags will be provided at packet pickup. You may use this bag or your own duffle bag for your warm-up clothes.   Drop off your bag at the Runner Bag Tent in the Runners’ Concourse, near the finish line for both races and centrally located between the two starting lines.

Shuttles to the Park

The Door County Half Marathon Shuttle offers participants and spectators a better way to get to Peninsula State Park on race day.  With increased participation, limited parking and a closed course, the free shuttle provides a convenient and easy way to get in and out of the park.  Shuttles will pick up at designated Lodging Sponsors or simply drive to the Park and Ride site at Skyway Drive-In Theatre or Gibraltar School in Fish Creek and catch a shuttle to the park.  Shuttles will leave the park beginning at noon, departing, every half hour.  Please click on the lodging sponsor tab to find out which lodging establishments have shuttle services.  Complete shuttle information will be sent out in a constant contact email the week of the race and a packet pickup.

Parking

Parking at Peninsula State Park is limited to 650 vehicles on race day, so carpooling is suggested. If you plan to drive to the park, be sure to get a DCHM event pass and a parking sticker (annual or $5 daily if you don’t already have one). Both are available at packet pickup on Friday at the Ephraim Village Hall or on race day at the Fish Creek and Ephraim Entrances.  

Shoe Recycling

Door County Half Marathon and Going Garbage & Recycling are partnering again this year to present Go Run & Recycle.  At the race last year, over 500 pounds of shoes were donated for recycling.  Join our efforts.  Bring your worn out running shoes to be recycled into sorbent material used to clean up oil spills.  A recycling container will be located at Packet Pickup on Friday and in the Runners’ Concourse on race day.

Showers

Participants are welcome to shower after the race at the Northern Door YMCA in Fish Creek, located between the two park entrances on Hwy 42 across the street from Gibraltar School.  Simply show your bib number at the front desk.  Bring your own towel or get one at the Y, a limited supply of towels are available for a small fee.   

Awards Ceremony

The Awards Ceremony will begin at Noon beginning with the 5k results. Overall and master winners for the half marathon and 5k will be awarded with prize packages and age group winners will receive medals.  All participants will have a chance to win great Door County door prizes. Participants must be present to win.
